Solid Waste Management

Solid Waste Management is an important aspect in supporting Government of India’s many green initiatives. They’re passing many benefits to WtE plants like:

  • As energy derived from MSW is renewable, WtE plants are eligible for Renewable Electricity Certificates in addition to revenues from electricity sales
  • Upto 35% capex subsidy is available from Government of India under Swacch Bharat Mission
  • Feed in Tariff Notified by Ministry of Power ranges from Rs. 7.04 per unit to Rs. 7.89 per unit of electricity for WtE plants
  • Electricity generated out of WtE plants has the first priority to be purchased by state discoms
  • Equipment brought for WtE plants are exempt from All central taxes like excise and all state taxes like VAT
  • The profits generated from WtE plants are exempt for 10 years from Income Tax under 80IA scheme
  • Uniform rules for MSW sector have been notified for ease of doing business under new Municipal Solid Waste Management Act of 2016
  • MNRE facilitates infrastructure creation for Waste to Energy plants and provides appropriate subsidy or incentives for such Waste to Energy plants.
  • For commercial projects, financial assistance is provided by way of interest subsidy in order to reduce the rate of interest to 7.5%, capitalized with an annual discount rate of 12 %. The assistance is routed through financial institutions (FIs)/ Lead FI of the project
  • Financial assistance is given for carrying out studies on waste to energy projects, covering full costs of such studies
  • The incentives and mandatory provision to utilize 5 % of RDF by thenearby industries will support the waste to energy plants, and reduce the consumption of fossil fuel
